Deep Dive into TidalCycles & SuperCollider
by Francesco Corvi (aka nesso)
Saturday 07.11.26 and Sunday 08.11.26
11am - 4pm with breaks
at Dock 11, Kastanienallee 79, 10435 Berlin
TidalCycles and SuperCollider are two of the longest standing and most widely used environments in live coding and computer music, with few other tools offering the same depth and flexibility. When approaching them the usual way and without a clear method, though, they come with a steep curve that can intimidate new users, and a lot of time can potentially be wasted into tasks that should be a one click effort and that kill your creative momentum. This intensive workshop proposes a solution, bringing a hands on approach along with a series of dedicated tools to speed up your learning process and keep you in a creative state instead of a debugging one.
During the workshop the lecturer will share strategies for bringing your live coding setup to a professional level, one that allows you to make music quickly and consistently, along with a series of custom tools that are the result of years of making music and performing live with these systems.
What we will cover:
TidalCycles — setting up an effective Tidal session; creative ways of working with one-shots and with longer sound files; running multiple OSC targets to control sound in sync with lights and visuals.
Customising SuperDirt — understanding and adapting the sound engine underneath TidalCycles through a dedicated GUI that makes the whole process more intuitive and accessible.
MIDI and OSC controllers — connecting physical controllers for more immediate, hands-on control, turning the setup into a hybrid instrument.
Participants should bring a laptop and headphones. Bringing some of your own samples, tracks and supercollider patches is recommended, so you can start experimenting with tour own material inside the provided tools straight away.
The workshop suits experienced users who want to incorporate these tools into their setup to speed up and improve their workflow, as well as new users who want to learn these environments with a practical method focused on results.
BIO
Francesco Corvi is a sound and multimedia artist working with live coding, generative systems, and internet art. His work combines influences from new media art, computer music, and glitch and noise aesthetics, exploring questions of time perception and non-human agency. He is also known under the alias nesso under which he released several experimental club records, carving out a distinct style between IDM, algorave, and post-club.
He has given lectures at many institutions across Europe like Brera Academy, NABA, IED, KABK, and Aalto University. He also worked for INDIRE and Tempo Reale on a training program on algorithmic music for school teachers.
He performed in many renowned clubs and venues such as Corsica Studios, Silent Green, Ankali, and has presented his works in contexts such as SeeYouSound Festival, Ostrava Days, ArteScienza, WeSa Seoul,Glitch – Pixel Language Tehran, and the Creative Coding Festival in New York.
